About

This drama was first produced in 1947 and considered a poignant critique of the American Dream. It is based on the true story of an airplane parts manufacturing conspiracy by two partners, Deever and Keller during WW2.  Their defective military-use parts led to  deaths. The play however is set several years after the conviction of Deever and the exoneration of his partner Keller. The eldest Keller son, went missing in the war, but his mother Kate has always believed he is still alive. In his absence, his childhood sweetheart, Deever’s daughter, has become engaged to this MIA’s younger brother. Tensions between this engagement and the discovery of all that Keller Sr. had indeed been aware of the defective parts before selling them, fuel the central drama of the play at a point where they gather for a rare get-together of the two families.
