SYNOPSIS: drama
This play is adapted from the novel Short Timers, a 1979 semi- autobiographical novel about the author’s experience in the Vietnam War. Hasford served as a combat correspondent with the 1st Marine Division. Spirit of the Bayonet reveals the harsh realities of recruitment and boot camp. Gus Hasford is portrayed in the character Joker.
In collaboration with Michael Herr and Stanley Kubrick, The full novel, Short Timers was later adapted by Hasford and became the Hollywood blockbuster film, Full Metal Jacket.
