About Thirteen Hands
Dramatic comedy with a musical twist.
Join a group of 4 older women at their once-a-week gathering at a bridge club. This is their time to momentarily suspend feelings of loneliness, isolation and fear, and begin to indulge, revel and celebrate the wonderful intimacy they form as a small group of ‘bridge club biddies’ or ‘the white glove brigade’ …. the ‘blue-rinse set’ . The play becomes a musical in two ways. It requires 3 original songs by each theatre company that produces it. The music must fit certain genres but words can change to suit the need. Genres include (1) Gilbert & Sullivan style, (2) Gospel style, and (3) unspecified (which could be the blues). The game of bridge is a metaphor for the women’s lives
